Edward Steel was born in 1987 and raised in the rural county of Suffolk, ENgland. From a young age Steed enjoyed drawing, but stopped doing it until 2012, when he realized he wanted to be a cartoonist. When Steed sold his first cartoon to the New Yorker, he quit his day job and has been making a living from cartooning ever since. Every week, he would try coming up with jokes and send a pile of rough sketch ideas to editors. When The New Yorker started to buy his jokes, Steed had to teach himself how to draw. He eventually expanded to producing covers, creating an image viewers would spend a lot of time observing compared to cartoons.
