AnniversaryTime for Paula, Susan and Mel…. Stave Puzzles’ Pros

My, how time flies. Last week we had a blow-out anniversary party for Susan(15), Paula(20) and Melody(10+10). That's them below from the left, Susan, Paula and Mel. My assistant, Tammy, is in the background. Why 10+10 for Mel? After 10 years in Staveland as a star cutter Mel went back to school, eventually returning 2 years later. She is now one of our digital whizzes along with Susan who is in charge of our mailings. Susan also oversees 75 licensing arrangements and must select from over 100 artists every two weeks as to who to feature in her Traditional mailings. Paula was my first full-time assistant joining us in 1988. She is now our super-duper Marketing Director in charge of everything except the cutting of puzzles (that's Jenn's domain). But Paula trained herself to cut a basic puzzle, just in case we needed her. Staveland has been lucky to have these three(3) characters for so long.

The Bottom of the Box of a Stave Puzzle

I was walking by our take-apart area the other day and I looked down into the bottom of a Stave box being filled with pieces… the bottom is where we place the silhouette-shaped pieces.. and I was struck by the assortment of beautiful African-theme pieces… so I grabbed a camera and took this shot… 2nd down. The top photo shows a corner of this glorious wooden puzzle.

Given that our wooden jigsaw puzzles are made of 5-ply cherry-backed wood 1/4 inch thick we can do intricate cutting designs that will be strong and durable.
