Stave Puzzling Photo #1

OK, you think you’re so smart? Yes? Well, go figure out this photo, a photo I took this weekend in Norwich, Vermont out our back door. Go to StavePuzzleNuts to place your guess. Answer next week. PS: absolutely no Photoshop involved.

YIKES! Get me out of this place!

Look at what we’ve had to put up with here on St.John. This hermit crab bite my finger when I picked it up…OUCH! And I found this scorpion in our bathroom sink and it definitely wanted to bite me. It could not get out of the slippery basin so I ‘helped’ it down the drain. It was as long as my index finger, a BIG one!

The Human Oil Slick Gets Fried?

While at Caneel Bay for lunch this guy plops down near us and slathers on sunscreen. Then he wades into the water for 2 minutes, gets out and plops back down in his chair. Guess what? He left behind a big oil slick in the water. I imagine he got fried.

St. John Birds of a Feather Flock Together?

Some birds down here are fairly tame, meaning they are not bothered by people. They, the birds, just go about their business. For instance, if you are wading in a school of small fish, a pelican might dive into the water 3 feet away from you. After all, first things first. Below are photos of a great blue heron and a great egret, both standing in the middle of the road. The egret is after a lizard on a road-side tree and, cars be damned, the egret wants that lizard. As we approached the heron it casually walked into the nearby mangroves to hunt for lizards and fish.

Night of the ….. Frog

I tell ya, the creatures you see down here on St. John are fascinating. Take this teeny night frog which I almost stepped on the other night. It will sit on a quarter without going over. I got on my hands and knees, put my camera on macro, and placed the camera 6 inches away. No kidding, I was that close. I flashed 3 shots and it never moved. Hmmmm, did I look that appetizing?

Hit Me Again!

There’s never a dull moment here at Stave, I promise. Upon returning from lunch last Friday, I was immediately hit with several things that needed to be done ‘right now!’ So, I’m plugging away at the most pressing item when Bri comes to me and says there’s someone in the lobby who would like to see me. I stroll out and see a nice couple whom I do not know. “Are you Jennifer?” the gentleman asks. “I just bumped into your car in the parking lot.” To me it was just one of those things that happens in life. No one was hurt, the car was drivable, a bummer but not the end of the world. The gentleman joked that he should send me a bottle of champagne because I was being so nice. Champagne? I LOVE Champagne. I’m a firm believer that life is too short not to enjoy a glass or two on a Regular Basis. Well lo and behold, guess what arrived at Stave this morning? Not one bottle but SIX bottles of yummy, yummy bubbly!! We immediately decided we needed a celebration so Bri ran home for her chocolate fountain while someone else went for snacks. As you can see from these photos, this is a GREAT day. I hope this couple comes back for another visit because I’ll park in the same spot. Thanks, Mr. D. You’re the Greatest!

A little something sweet to go with the bubbly.
