For a zillion years ‘M’ has been buying his family a holiday Stave puzzle and they all sit around and do it/them during the holidays. Last week his kids/gradkids totally surprised him on his 65th birthday with a custom puzzle design of ‘M’s house with special banner. ‘M’ was totally blown away. The kids put the Stave puzzle box inside a wine box and wrapped it. ‘M’ has a wine cellar and when he saw/felt his birthday present he thought it was a wine bottle… clever kids. By the way, this is an original painting done by Stave from a photo of ‘M’s home secretly supplied to us by his daughter. PS: ‘M’s border collie shown in front died two years ago but working from another photo of the collie we worked it into the scene.
Here are more interesting edge and interior treatments I thought you’d enjoy seeing. In the bottom puzzle there is heart-shaped negative space surrounding the butterfly. In the top puzzle (just below), the light-colored flowers were added digitally, a nice touch that will surprise and delight the customer.

Cyclone Carol descended on Staveland this past Monday and Tuesday… that’s her below at Blackberry Farm (last year) where another Stave Puzzle Party will be held in 2 weeks. Carol (our former Marketing Director now living on a Maine island) and Jennifer, with husbands in tow, will be hosting this wild and crazy event February 22 and 23. Since Martha and I will be in Boise visiting our grandson Simon that weekend Jennifer came up with the idea of putting me on a DVD with a "Welcome" message and hints for the Treasure Hunters. (Carol has dreamed up this creative and challenging Treasure Hunt which involves some players rocketing around BBF on golf carts collecting clues.) So on Tuesday Paula was chief videowoman, Carol was the director and script writer (no unions here), and I was the pigeon in front of the camera following directions (at least trying to). We did 4 different scenes, each in one take. Then we loaded the video onto a Mac, fiddled/fumbled around with iMovie and iDVD and, by golly, we actually figured out to burn a workable DVD. Hey, it’s actually pretty good…. watch out youTube… Paula has the video bug now. The party will take place in the Guest House living room, shown below. Only two(2) rooms are left for the party!
Blackberry Farm is a fabulous resort just north of Knoxville, Tenn. Wonderful facilities and wonderful food. We’ve gotten lots of interesting new customers from there. Check it out!

Originally the deadline for my Challenge Photo contest was January 31st. I’ve been watching the Stave PuzzleNuts sight for new entries and was pleased to see them just start coming in somewhere in the middle of January. My thought was why stop now! I was getting a kick out of the new entries and hated to put an end to the creativity of Stave Puzzle Nuts, I extended the deadline through February. The Stave Gang will check out all the entries on March 2nd, and choose our favorite from each category.
You can see a slide show of the entries so far here:
or visit Stave PuzzleNuts site for more information and details about entering the contest:
