Below you will see Tropical Punch, Stave’s #1 bestselling puzzle. Look carefully at this photo and you’ll see why this is so popular. For a small number of pieces you get a super challenging wooden jigsaw puzzle. Notice how the interior fish pieces are nested together with color-line cutting between them. It takes a lot of head scratching to figure out which fish goes where.
I think most of you know that on April 1st we were featured on CBS Sunday Morning with Charles Osgood. The response to this 7 minute piece has been astounding. We have been buried with new orders. On April 1st our web site almost crashed because of the load.
An enthusiastic viewer of the CBS piece (not a customer) sent me a hand-painted wine glass… shown below. She said "I saw you on the CBS Sunday Morning show and decided you simply must have a puzzle wine glass. After seeing the show I know you appreciate the effort that goes into custom handmade things. Enjoy!"
Thank you Trish!
This is a custom puzzle, a photo puzzle showing the family dog…. a surprise gift from husband to wife. The lower photo shows a corner of the puzzle with the bones we added. The upper photo is a close-up of the ‘window’ design we crafted into the puzzle…. featuring the family terrier. This heart-shaped drop-out area will perplex the puzzler. She will be looking for matching terrier pieces for most of the puzzle and it won’t be until the end that she will realize what’s going on. We love to throw in ‘curve balls’ like this.
Finally!! Look back in my December blog and you’ll find a photo of a prototype Trick puzzle I’ve been working on. Yes, it looks crude but why spend time/money with a Stave artist until I know the puzzle has been fully tested and all the kinks worked out. This is a particularly complicated Trick puzzle because it has three(3) separate challenges… so you get bang for the buck…. 3 puzzles-in-one. There are three(3) pairs of fish and four(4) pop-up fishermen. Each challenge involves connecting the four(4) fishermen to two(2) pair of fish… all inside the fishing hole. But what to name it? Ye Olde Fishing Hole? Fishing Derby? ‘What a Catch’ won the prize. You will see this puzzle in a mailing soon! By the way, the mailing shows ‘What a Catch’ as 3 lightning blots in difficulty (of 5)…. actually it is a 4-bolter! a REAL challenge!
